Eligibility

Virginia law requires individuals wanting to be an escort vehicle driver to complete an escort vehicle driver training course. Successful completion of this training course is required before taking an escort vehicle driver certification knowledge test at any Virginia DMV customer service center.

To qualify for Virginia escort vehicle driver certification, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Hold a valid driver's license
  • Successfully complete an 8-hour escort vehicle driver certification training course approved by Virginia DMV

How to Apply

To apply for Virginia escort vehicle driver certification, you must:

  • Submit a completed Escort Vehicle Driver Certification Application (HP 404) to any Virginia DMV customer service center
  • Pass an escort vehicle driver certification knowledge test with a score of 80% or higher
  • Pay a $25 certification fee

The Virginia Escort Driver's Manual (HP 405) will assist in your preparation for the test. An appointment is not necessary.

Fees

The fee for an original or renewal escort vehicle driver certification is $25. Certifications are valid for 5 years.

The fee for a duplicate or reissue escort vehicle driver certification is $15.
