Maintenance of Rental Tax Records
Every rentor must maintain adequate and complete records to support their rental tax returns filed with DMV through the reporting month of June 2012. The records must support the amount of the tax and the rental fee for which the rentor is liable.
Rental tax returns are to be filed with the Department of Taxation beginning with the reporting month of July 2012.
Rental companies must maintain records pertaining to motor vehicles rented in the Commonwealth for four years (current year plus three previous years). These records must be maintained even if the company is sold, relocates, or goes out of business.
These rental tax returns and records must be available for audit or investigation for the above record maintenance time period.
