DMV Offers Tips to Drive Green and Safe
New Web Pages Highlight Reduced Fuel Consumption

RICHMOND - With fuel prices on the rise, are you looking for ways to save on fuel expenses? The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) promotes "driving green" to save green. Driving green means practicing safe driving habits and keeping your car in good shape. Doing this will help you reduce your fuel consumption, which translates into less money spent at the pump and more money in your pocket.

"Simple things such as frugal air conditioning use can help," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "How fast will you be driving? If 40 miles per hour or less, rolling down your windows and opening your air vents will increase fuel economy. If you are driving at a speed above 40, you'll be more fuel efficient by using your air conditioner."

DMV posted two new webpages focusing on green driving. Customers can see more tips for fuel savings, including driving habits and vehicle maintenance. In addition, on DMV's Green on the Go webpage, read about fuel efficient vehicles such as scooters, mopeds, hybrids and alternative fuels. Visit DMV's website at
