DeepRun High School's Gil Ziegelbaur is the Winner of Lights, Camera, Take Action: Stop Underage Drinking Now!

Richmond, VA - Fox Richmond/My TV Richmond, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles Highway Safety Department and Loveland Distributing revealed the winner of Lights, Camera, Take Action: Stop Underage Drinking Now! on FOX Richmond in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 3, 2008.

In what turned out to be the most watched Super Bowl in Super Bowl history approximately 257,000 households in Richmond were watching when the winning entry aired on FOX Richmond. Gil Ziegelbaur's community service message titled "Think" depicts a teenager walking into a convenience store and making the decision not to buy alcohol when he "thinks" about the consequences of underage drinking. The message is simple, but clear. Gil's entry garnered the most votes beating out 2nd place by more than 20%.

A senior at Deep Run High School, Gil understands the consequences of teen drinking and driving. Two of the four finalist entries were from Deep Run High School, where last year there was a tragic death involving a student and alcohol. Gil offers, "because of all the publicity of all the recent events, people [at Deep Run] are more aware of what's going on and what not to do."

"Teenagers often don't think about the deadly consequences of bad decisions," stated DMV Commissioner D. B. Smit, the Governor's Highway Safety representative. "The winning public service announcement illustrates one peer's thoughtful and responsible action, an example for all students to steer clear of alcohol use. I congratulate the winner and commend all of the participants in Lights, Camera, Take Action."

Thousands of votes were collected from December 3, 2007 through January 20, 2008 and Gil's entry rose to the top. His PSA will be featured on FOX Richmond now through the crucial months of prom season in the spring.
