DMV Offers Online Tracking of Handicapped Placard Delivery
Customers Can Follow Production and Mailing of Products
RICHMOND - The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is offering a new service, enabling customers who have applied for or renewed a handicapped placard to find out when they may receive their new product in the mail. By signing up for a myDMV account at www.dmvNOW.com, customers may follow the production timeline of their placard.
"While most customers receive their products in a few days, mail delivery times can vary," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "One of our most frequent customer questions is 'When will I receive my product?' With this new service, customers can log on to our website and know exactly when the U.S. postal service received their product for delivery."
Twenty-four hours after applying for or renewing a handicapped placard at a DMV customer service center or online, the customer can go online and see the delivery status of the placard. Once they have logged in to their myDMV account, customers will see either that the handicapped placard is in production by DMV, or the date that it was mailed. If the placard has been returned by the postal service to DMV as undeliverable, the customer will be asked to contact DMV to verify or update his or her mailing address.
Tracking the production of driver's licenses and ID cards has been available since 2010. Last month, nearly 3,000 customers used this online tracking feature.
Customers can elect to receive handicapped placard renewal notices via email, text or phone message, rather than getting a paper reminder in the mail. Since 2010, DMV has offered electronic notification of vehicle registration and driver's license or ID card renewal notices. More than 1.7 million Virginians are currently signed up to receive electronic renewal notifications.
