Salvage General Licensing Information

If you wish to operate as a salvage dealer, demolisher, rebuilder, salvage pool, or vehicle removal operator in Virginia, you must be licensed by DMV. As a salvage dealer, demolisher, rebuilder, salvage pool, vehicle removal operator, insurance company representative, or motor vehicle dealer, you must observe the Code of Virginia 46.2-1601 as they pertain to these subjects.

A separate and distinct license is required for each of the following salvage license types:

More than one salvage license type may be applied for at a single business location. All salvage license types applied for at the business location must prove compliance with all applicable zoning ordinances as required by the locality where the business is located. The business must contain at least 600 square feet of enclosed space.

The initial license type fee is $100 annually. Each additional license type fee (at the same business location) is $25 annually.
