Abingdon DMV Select Relocating to New County Office Building
New Location Has More Parking, Easily Accessible for Customers
RICHMOND - The Abingdon DMV Select is moving to a new location. The DMV Select, currently located at 174 East Main Street in downtown Abingdon, will relocate to the first floor of the new Washington County Government Center at One Government Center Place, Abingdon, 24210. The DMV Select will close the current location on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 5 p.m. and reopen in the new location at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
The new Abingdon DMV Select location is handicapped accessible and has more parking. The building is near the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center and will serve as a one-stop location for business with the County Administrative Division offices including the Building and Zoning Departments, the County Treasurer, and Commissioner of the Revenue. Offices for the Chamber of Commerce will also be housed in the new County Government Center.
"This new location is easily accessible off of exit 14 on I-81, and there is ample parking," said DMV Select Agent Fred Parker, Washington County Treasurer. "I think it will be more convenient for our customers to be able to receive a variety of services in one building."
Abingdon is one of 57 DMV Select partners throughout the state. Local governments and private citizens contract with DMV to conduct vehicle-related transactions. Each DMV Select has online access to DMV allowing the partner to update customer records immediately. The Abingdon hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
"We appreciate our partnership with Washington County for offering a convenient alternative for local DMV customers," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. Customers can conduct many routine motor vehicle-related services at DMV Selects including vehicle decal renewals, vehicle titles and license plate orders.
Customers who need to conduct DMV business on Friday, October 5 can visit the nearby Abingdon or Bristol DMV offices. More than 30 transactions are also available online at www.dmvNOW.com.
