DMV 2 Go to Serve Veterans at New Benefits Office in Virginia Beach
Mobile Office Provides All DMV Services
RICHMOND - DMV's mobile customer service center called DMV 2 Go will provide all DMV services to veterans and their families on Wednesday, April 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the first time at the new Veterans Benefits Office in Virginia Beach. The office is located at 287 Independence Boulevard in the Pembroke Office Park, Pembroke Two, Suite 120.
The handicapped-accessible full service office provides all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards. Road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken and have vision screenings. Customers can order disabled parking placards or plates, and get vehicle titles, license plates and decals. If Virginians have recently moved, they can stop in to update their addresses on their DMV record, and also update their voter registration and organ donor information. Customers can search for other state services through a wireless Virginia Internet portal.
"We support Governor Bob McDonnell's goal of making government services more easily accessible for our veterans," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "What better way than to bring services directly to them. Veterans will use a number of the same documents applying for services inside the Veterans Benefits Office as they will outside on DMV 2 Go."
DMV staff will be prepared to assist with services specific to veterans including accepting and processing certificates of disability, which allows veterans to apply for a registration fee exemption and special license plates. DMV offers more than 30 military-themed license plates.
The Department of Veteran Services Commissioner Paul Galanti is also excited about this new partnership. "Our agency stands ready to help veterans access the federal and state benefits they've earned," said Galanti. "Partnering with another government agency is an additional showcase of that support."
