DMV Announces New Partnership with Social Security Administration
Mobile Office will Serve Customers Outside Cary Street Location

RICHMOND - The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles' mobile customer service center, called DMV 2 Go, will offer convenient service for customers who also need to do business at the Social Security Administration.

The mobile office will be in the back parking lot of Social Security's downtown Richmond office located at 1834 West Cary Street near VCU. Customers will be served Wednesday, January 11 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

"This new partnership makes sense," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "When you change your name, you need to do business with both DMV and Social Security. The same can be true with death benefits. You also use a number of the same documents to conduct regular business at both agencies, so we thought, why not make it possible for people to conduct business at the same location."

The handicapped-accessible full service office provides all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards. Road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken. Customers can order disabled parking placards or plates, and get vehicle titles, license plates and decals. If Virginians have recently moved, they can stop in to update their address on their DMV record, and also update their voter registration address and organ donor status. Customers can search for other state services through a wireless Virginia Internet portal.

"Partnering with Social Security is helping us further our goal of streamlining government services for Virginians," said Holcomb. Customers are encouraged to research and bring the proper documents to complete their transactions by using the interactive document guide at www.dmvNOW.com.

Information regarding Social Security benefits and services is available at www.socialsecurity.gov.
