New DMV Mobile Office to Serve Goochland Customers
DMV 2 Go Will Visit Corporate Offices, Military Bases, Retirement Homes
RICHMOND - A new mobile DMV customer service center, called DMV 2 Go, is making its way across central Virginia, offering another convenient method for customers to do their DMV business.
Monday through Thursday, from February 14 through March 10, DMV 2 Go will provide services outside the Goochland County Administration Building, 1800 Sandy Hook Road, in the lower parking lot off Route 522. The mobile DMV office will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Goochland DMV Select, located inside the Goochland treasurer's office, is closed until further notice due to a criminal investigation.
In the future, DMV 2 Go will be scheduling visits to assisted living facilities and retirement communities, businesses, university and college campuses, and military bases. It is scheduled to provide services at the Fort Lee military base beginning Monday, March 14.
"We're excited to launch this convenient service for Virginians," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "If you can't get to DMV, we'll bring DMV to you!"
The handicapped-accessible full service office can provide all DMV transactions including applying for and renewing driver's licenses and ID cards -- road and knowledge tests are available, and applicants may get their pictures taken. Customers can order disabled parking placards or plates, and get vehicle titles, license plates and decals. If Virginians have recently moved, they can stop in to update their address on their DMV record, and also update their voter registration address and organ donor status. Customers can search for other state services through a wireless Virginia Internet portal.
At no cost, DMV acquired a 1990 recreational vehicle with an odometer reading of 11,000 miles from another state agency that no longer used the unit. "DMV has recycled this vehicle into a mobile DMV office, giving it a new life of service for Virginia's citizens," Holcomb said.
In the past, DMV had four mobile offices that traveled to provide service throughout Virginia. The mobile customer service centers were popular at sites such as Geico, Capital One, Ford Motor Company, Norfolk Naval Base, Newport News Shipbuilding, colleges and universities. The service was discontinued and the units sold after state budget reductions in 2002.
