URGENT NOTICE: Users will be unable to order permits from Monday, August 29, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. through Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at 7:30 a.m. This will be necessary to transition to Virginia’s new permitting system, EZ Haul.

When is a hauling permit required?
If your vehicle configuration is reduced to its smallest dimensions possible and still exceeds the maximum legal limitations, you must obtain a hauling permit prior to traveling over Virginia's highways.
DMV offers an Automated Routing Solution (ARS) for approving and issuing hauling permits. ARS will reduce the permit issuance turnaround time and provide you with the ability to submit hauling permit applications electronically, self-issue certain types of hauling permits and receive most hauling permits in one day or less.
To get started, Logon using your VAHPS ID, User ID and PIN or Register for a self-service account.
Carriers hauling boats and/or watercraft must comply with U.S. Federal Law regarding transportation of invasive species across state and international borders. Call Before You Haul: 1-844-311-4873, https://www.westernais.org/callbeforeyouhaul
